KS2 Participation Award
Aims and 'How it works'

Key Stage 2 Participation Award
Increasing physical activity levels of 7 - 11 year olds
This Award has been produced by Stephen Staveley for exclusive use within the Scarborough & Filey School Sports Partnership.
AIMS:
- To build upon the success of the Foundation & KS1 Participation Award and develop a monitoring & rewarding tool that will aid in the progression of young people to participate in physical activity from KS1 to KS2
- To support the 5 hour offer in creating a resource that will encourage and motivate young people to further participate in physical activity
How does it work?
- The Sports Association website will provide online support for everyone involved - staff, children, parents, etc. www.scarb-primarysport.co.uk
- All children involved will receive a ‘Pupil Participation Award Log Book’ to monitor their participation in sport.
- A PC version of this log book will also be provided for completion in school ICT lessons. (In the future, this log book may be available to update online through the NYCC School Learning Platform)
- Children will complete the Log Book for a period of time (probably 3 weeks in the pilot). The school PLT will then award overall Gold, Silver or Bronze to each pupil.
- PLTs involved in the pilot study will receive Partnership PLT time for training in how to administer the award.
- Localised ‘rewards’ will be offered to children with ‘validated’ high participation levels.
- Medals and/or ‘Sew-on’ badges will be made available to purchase by pupils for GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE achievements. These will be self-financing. Certificates will also be provided.
- The crucial part of this Award is understanding each ‘Activity Type’ and having participation time validated.
- This KS2 Participation Award pilot study is approved and backed by the Scarborough & Filey School Sports Partnership and the Youth Sport Trust.
